I stopped by this small market to see what I could find - I had some leftover pulled pork, and thought that some tacos might be nice. The awning for the shop advertises "tortillas hechas a mano" so I wanted to see if this was really true.

When I walked in, I was greeted with the smell of ripe guavas, and I couldn't resist buying them. They were quite small, but perfectly ripe. I ended up blending these into a nice guava juice at home.

The shop is small, with various packaged goods and cheeses, but at the front they did indeed have homemade tortillas (made in-house). Sold in packs of 10 (or 12? I forget), the tortillas were still warm at 6:30 PM on a Thursday. The woman I spoke to said that generally they are available in the evening (until they run out). There was also has a wide selection of fried meats and chicharron, which are also prepared at the store. Definitely need to get back soon and try some of this, too.

By the time I was ready to eat the tortillas, they had cooled, so I reheated them on the stove and made some tacos with the pulled pork. Pretty great, and very nice to know this place exists for last minute meals at home. One thing I can say for sure....Bernal Heights is about as far from a food desert as anywhere I've ever been.
