We are headed to Edinburgh, and then on to the Highlands, Orkney, Skye and back to Glasgow (then to Paris, but that's another post) in a couple of weeks and have some dining ideas for your feedback.
We are meeting another couple in Edinburgh when we arrive and would like to go directly to a good (but not more than £30/person) meal. Based on some research, the following look like possibilities:
Fisher'slooks like good seafood
SkippersLeithanother seafood joint
Dubh Praison the Royal MileScottish food
All the above are recommended and look good based on their description. Obviously I would love to hear other recommendations as we are in Edinburgh for a few days. As we are staying in town near Grassmarket, we would prefer a nearby restaurant so we dont eat too late. However, we would head to Leith is that too far or too dangerous to walk? If so, should we take a cab?
We are possibly dining at The 3 Chimneys on Skye. The website and sample menus look excellenthas anyone been? Would you go back or recommend?
Ive read here on CH about the tearooms on Orkney and cant wait for those. We are also looking for recommendations on anywhere else on the island. We are interested in seafood (are oysters out of season like the U.S.?), salmon and other Scottish fare.
Im also interested in which distilleries to visitprobably one in North Highlands and one in West Highlands/Skye (probably Talisker). We would love a small, relatively unknown place.
Finally, good recommendations on good, small music bars in Edinburgh (NOT techno, rock and roll, alt-country or indie preferred).
Thanks for any help.
