A couple of posters have asked about eats near Great America recently and having just spent a few nites at the Hilton near there, we found some decent alternatives to fast food.
There's a small strip mall on Tasman and Lafayette right at the Lick Mill light rail stop that has Japanese, Indian, Greek, Mexican, Chinese (and Carl's Jr.) resturants. We didn't get a chance to try the Indian, Mexican or Chinese (just kind of a take out steam table place).
We had spanikopita and a combo plate (gryos, falafel, dolmas, houmus, rice, salad, pita and cucumber sauce) at The Castle. It was all very good and refreshing on a hot day. The cucumber sauce is put on everything but it's tasty. I enjoyed the spanikopita at room temp better than heated in the microwave. The portions were huge and it was all very good (not WOW great, but it beats Carls Jr and pricey hotel food!)
Day2 we had soba noodles, gyoza, salad, edamame at Tasman Teriyaki. Their menu says they make their own sauces and dressings using family recipes and the freshest ingredients. What we had was very refreshing and I really wanted to get back to try more, but we ran out of time. They also offer combo bentos, udon, sushi, donburi, and some Korean house specials (beef or pork bulgoki, spicy chicken and kalbi).
Definately the best food we found along that light rail corridor. We did take light rail into Mountain View one day, but only had some gelato at the gelato classico shop.
Also a short cab ride from the Hilton or Westin is the Mercado which had some chain restaurants, we ate at a pizza one but I can't find the biz card or menu - it was pretty good, organic ingredients, wood fire pizzas, large portions.
