Some Recent Eats

On a high note, usually I get my pho at Pho Pasteur in Allston and have always enjoyed it. Based on recent reviews, I tried the Pho Ga (Chicken Noodle Soup) at the Randolph So 1 on Friday. It was delicious, the broth was a little less fatty than the pho at Pho Pasteur and I would have to give it the nod over Pho Pasteur. Recently, I have twice tried the Chicken Burritos (with guacamole) at El Pelon. While good and a great deal @ $5.25, I would agree with recent posters who have said that they could use a lot more flavor (cilantro). On a down note, I was recently treated to dinner at Tartufo in Newton Centre (former site of a very good Chinese Restaurant, Seven Star Mandarin). Most of the entrees range from $20-$30, with the "specials" being between $35-$40. Without going into details, I will say that the service was pretty poor. We shared an appetizer of Shrimp with Garlic (3 fairly tasty shrimp for approx. $10.50). My wife ordered a Ravioli dish which she thought sounded delicious (Ravioli stuffed with crab in a cream sauce) but which she didn't enjoy (all she could taste was the sauce). I ordered a Sirloin Steak in a Rosemary Sauce. I ordered the steak medium rare but it came out Medium well (no pink whatsoever). The owner happened to stop by our table to see how things were going and when I showed him my steak he insisted that it WAS medium rare and walked away. In addition, my brother ordered Lamb Chops which he also did not enjoy. Although I did not pay, I am sure that it was very expensive and really not worth the price. We had wanted to go to La Morra in Brookline but could not get a reservation until 9 pm, oh well.
