was induced to go to Bar Louie downtown for birthday drinks. this place was a total nightmare and the waitstaff was completely bewildered. it was actually comical how screwed up everything was (luckily this was a casual "grab drinks and a small bite" kind of night or there would have been some very pissed off people). food was typical bar food, could be worse but nothing noteworthy. i will say that the advertised "dollar hamburger" is a pretty lousy bait and switch technique; sure the BURGER is a dollar... you want cheese add 75 cents you want pickles, onion, tomato? 50 cents EACH. basically anything but a burger and a bun was an upcharge.
Chilangos continues to be on point. new, smaller menu, but the food is just as excellent as always. i noticed a few favorite dishes had been replaced by new items that sounded appealing. definitely seemed to be a few more vegetarian options than i recall seeing in the past.
North Side Pockets (corner of douglas and mineral spring) is a hidden gem. a loaded falafel, small tub of four bean salad, and a baklava came to $12 and change. excellent food and i had enough for dinner and lunch the next day. we've been going here for awhile and it never disappoints.
