EAT - dinner review

kibbles | Mar 30, 2010 08:03 AM

saturday nite we couldn’t get into the restaurant of our choice so we decided to try EAT, as it was hopping. did so w/ a bit of trepidation as we'd been once before for breakfast and werent very impressed.

we were seated by the window which was nice, except the main dining room was full of 12 loud, drunk, cackling hens. this was amplified by the loud music which forced them to yell even louder at one another. this was annoying.

they were out of the Blue Cheese & Fig Torte app so we settled for the Sweet Potato Soup and the Spinach Artichoke Gratin. soup was ok, but super peppery, hard to taste anything else. the gratin….was not a gratin, it was spinach & artichoke covered w/ a heap of melted motz. absurdly, it was served w/ store-bought tortilla chips. whaaa? no bread? no toasted somethings?

for mains I had the Pork Tenderloin w/ Caramelized Onions and she the Pot Roasted Chicken. my pork was pounded, coated in mustard, blackened, and covered in a mushy pile of sauteed onions -- nothing caramelized about 'em. the side of baked mac & cheese was spaghetti w/ cheese. as for the chicken, if it is possible to have dense, dry chicken while sitting in a bowl of its juices, then they pulled it off. side of garlic smashed potatoes was the hilite of the meal.

for dessert we had a piece of Buttermilk Coconut Pie, complete w/ store-bought crust.

silver lining? got out for $54, plus tip. but don’t think we'll be heading back, ever, BYOB or no…

*Food* - corporate cafeteria grade.
*Service* - waitron was adequate.
*Atmosphere* - somewhat hip, but very loud.
