Easy beef question

Family members (3) coming to dinner. Novice cook, unadventerous guests. I'm thinking of roast beef, mashed potatoes, a veg. Is there a difference or preference between a beef tenderloin and a filet of beef? I've found easy recipies for roasting both and the only difference I can see is in size (2lb vs 6lb). Any other easy suggestions are more than welcome!
