Dungeness Crab at Golden Turtle Vietnamese Restaurant?

Ann Chantal | Jun 24, 200302:29 PM     5

I am an ex-SFer currently living in NYC and planning a visit in about two weeks to SF. I am bringing my significant other to SF (his first visit ever) and he has expressed an interest in tasting Dungeness crab.

I wanted to dissuade him from a stroll at touristy Fisherman's Wharf so I described a dish I had (alas, many years ago) at the Golden Turtle Restaurant on Upper Van Ness that consisted of Dungeness crab sauteed with chilis, fish sauce and crispy bits of carmelized shallots. He is salivating at the thought of it. Unfortunately, I don't know whether Golden Turtle still exists or whether their chef is still as talented at cooking that dish. Has anyone been there recently? Any comments about the place?

I would willingly take suggestions for other great places to eat Dungeness Crab in unusual preparations. We both love Asian food. I would especially cherish any suggestions from Melanie Wong (I'm a great fan of your postings).

Thanks for your advice and help, in advance.

Ann
