Dumpling Palace, recently opened in the Back Bay

GastroPublico | May 18, 201505:46 PM     32

My wife and I paid our first visit this past Sunday (Kudos to Drew Starr for the heads up on twitter https://goo.gl/4OD2uA)

They've got their menu posted up on their site, http://dumpling-palace.com/Menu.html

As you can see it is rather lengthy. Based on our initial impressions, we'll likely make quite a few visits in the future as there are so many offerings unique to us that we are eager to try.

We got there shortly after they opened and saw there was plenty of seating available. Service was friendly and attentive though not much help when asked for help with describing some of the more unfamiliar dishes we were curious to try (likely a language barrier issue).

What we had today:

G22 Squid with Pickled Mustard Greens - we are partial to pickled mustard greens so this was a safe, solid choice. Give it a shot here or with a different dish on the menu if you haven't tried these vegetables before

D14 Fuzhou Style Rice Noodles - could not get a sufficient description from our server but we ordered it anyway. It turned out to be a satisfying, thin rice noodle dish which I could not describe any better than that it tastes very much like filipino pancit. Sorry if that's not really helpful

C18 Sticky Rice Shao Mai Shanghai Style - these were bundles of umami bombs which were surprisingly very filling. Very good, but likely will forego in the future to try other dishes before having them again

C12 Mini Juicy Buns with Pork & Crabmeat - being that they are affiliated with Chinatown's Dumpling Cafe these were hard to pass up, especially after our server pretty much sold us on ordering it as we were first perusing the menu for choices. These were solid and I would definitely order again.

With so many options on their menu, we'd love to hear from others on recommendations and feedback on other dishes as we work our way through it.
