Duke's for brunch (longish)

Never thought I would be touting Duke's for a good brunch experience. Favorite niece on her way back to London this afternoon wanted to eat by the sea but the parking lot that is PCH on a sunny day forced us to consider something closer than the heart of Malibu or beyond (for some reason my nearest and dearest loves Paradise Cove). We drove into Duke's and the parking person asked if we had reservations - no, that is. Inside my own pup now grownup, pushy and take charge found out that while it was an hour wait we could eat in the bar. The bar at the end is a pleasant open room on to a deck and we immediately got a table with stools and Kelly our waitperson told us either Buffet ($18.95) or the menu: N and dearest of the large Scandinavian appetite, chose the Buffet - good selection. I chose the panko crusted fresh ono with caper sauce and the big hit: bok choy and chinese cabbage lightly steamed with this dynamite sauce which Kelly found out is rice vinegar mixed with passion fruit dipping sauce whatever that is. I could have eaten three bowls of this stuff. Niece had fish and chips and big pup had a mango burger with swiss and very very good fries.
Fresh oj all round, one coffee and a bill of $61 for four plus a nice tip. A pleasant surprise, good service, view, happy room, noisy but you could hear conversation - we will go again for sure.
