Drying chiles on the plant?

Bada Bing | Oct 22, 201306:44 PM

This is kind of a gardening question, kind of a Home Cooking one, so here it is in the middle.

Frost came last night so I cut down my entire basil and Thai chile plants.

Normally what I do with red-ripened Thai chiles is toss them on a plate on the counter, where they will dry out but not rot forever (same is not true for green chiles). But since these are so tiny and kind of a pain to harvest, I wonder if I couldn't just hang the whole plant upside down in the basement and let the chiles dry on the plant. Any experiences?
