Dropped by Spoon on Polk

A friend and I thought to have an spur of the moment brunch on Saturday. We walked around Polk and came up this restaurant called Spoon. I think this is a semi-new restaurant in this area.

We didn't order much, just one entree of each of us, but I was impressed with their menu. The brunch/lunch menu had a good selection of usual breakfast and lunch fair, but jazzed up. A whole section devoted to eggs benedicts (which I didn't ordered but lots of other patrons did and it looked really good)from old fasion egg benedicts to grilled sirloin topped english muffins. All of the eggs benedicts were served with this large potato "thing" It looks to me like some sort of mashed potatoe cake, coated with panko and fried. It looked delicious.

My friend and I ordered the brioch French toast and Thai Chicken pizza. The French toast came with carmalized strawberries and bananas. Three thick slices of rich, sweet brioch toasts are coated in a light egg batter, soaked with the fruit juices and syrup, it's one of the better French toasts I've ever had.
The Thai pizza was also a delight. Instead of a red or white sauce, this pizza was topped with peanut sauce, and a wide variety of Thai herbs and spices, and of course chicken. The crust was thin but stood up to the topping well. I felt like I was eating something healthy as well as delicious.

One thing I especially liked about Spoon was their bread basket. I have a thing for bread and when a restaurant take special care to provide excellent bread, that always scores points with me. As soon as we set down a small basket was presented to us, in it was three selection of baked goods: toasted brioche, muffin-like mini cakes, and a sweet roll.

The service was a bit lacking, slow to take orders and didn't check back too often to see how we were doing. Overall a really nice restaurant, will definitly go back again to try the egg benedicts and their dinner menu perhaps.
