There was a four-word message on my machine last night from a friend: "Free wine Chinese. Saturday." This is one bottom-feeding tendency of mine that I not only admit to but cherish: going to Westside Cottage Too on 9th Ave. with a big group of people and feasting on Ginger Chicken and Spicy Szechuan Dumplings with endless pitchers of watered-down Franzia white. I know, it sounds terrible. But it's fun, and surprisingly enough WCT's Ginger Chicken kicks butt - when I worked nearby I'd get it delivered pretty frequently and always enjoyed it despite the lack of rotgut with which to wash it down. Both Westside Cottage Too and Westside Cottage a few blocks away do the all-you-can drink thing, and I know of at least four or five more Chinese restaurants that do it as well. I was wondering if there are others out there who share my fondess for this phenomenon. If there are, where do you like to go? Have you found any hidden gems lurking on unlikely menus, or a place with wine that seems to be from something besides a box? And one of my biggest questions: do Free Wine Chinese restaurants exist outside of NYC?
