Dreamland and Bottega in Birmingham

This was a really nice city - Went to visit cousins. Always wanted to try Dreamland since hearing about it from the sports announcers during college football season. Many hounds warned it was not that good.

There is a branch, 10 years old, in Birmingham. Some say the original owner's daughter is no longer in charge of this place. I have no idea. The place seats 150 and was very busy on a weekday for lunch so they must be doing something right. Their banana pudding was terrific. The beans and slaw were wonderful, too.

But, the ribs were not the type I personally like. They are not fall off the bone tender nor do they have the smokey taste of ribs cooked at a low temperature for a long time. They are pit cooked over hardwood, but they are done very quickly for whatever reason. Perhaps because they sell so many racks? Perhaps because they do not want to commit to a 12-14 hour process?

We had dinner at Bottega, which is owned by the same chef/owner of The Highland Grill. It was great. They have two different operations in the same building - cafe and fine dining. We ate at the fine dining section and it was excellent.

On to Atlanta......
