B Doughnut opened late last year. I was very excited because, although you can get "artisan" doughnuts at Artifact and Corner Pantry on the weekends, those aren't dedicated doughnut shops (not to mention inconsistent.) On top of that, our preferred "average" doughnut shop -- namely, Keller's -- closed recently.
Our samplings have been great. Most of the doughnuts are filled, even the unfilled don't have a hole in the middle. The frying is not greasy, the doughnuts and fillings both have that refined homemade flavor, and the balance is spot on. Balance of sweetness, and balance of filling/dough ratio. As for nitpicks, both are personal. I wish they coated the doughnuts with less sugar and instead sweetened the dough a bit more. (Textural preference.) Also, I never like when everything is from scratch and but then there are flavors like "cereal milk". (Didn't stop me from tasting the cereal milk; it wasn't bad at all.) I've never been able to get there in time for the Cronuts (they call them Doughssants.)
B Doughnut was featured in The Sun recently, but the rush seems to have died down somewhat. They are closed Monday and Tuesday, and close at 1PM other days. Call before going to make sure they aren't sold out.
