Dopo Teatro Dinner Report (long)

Three of us went for pre-theater dinner last night. Pre-fixe pre-theater dinner came with bruschette, salad or soup, entree choices were salmon over broccoli, roasted potatoes with roasted veal in a gravy, meat lasagna and some other choices. We had the above 3 entrees. Dessert was supposed to be a choice of lemon custard crumb pie or mocha cappucino cake and coffee or tea. Food was not that good. Bruschette was somewhat flavorless on bread that was on the stale side. Salad was good, but mesculan greens with oil and vinegar should not be difficult. Both fish and veal were dry. The thinnest and smallest slices of veal I have ever seen. Such small portions. Lasagna was not good, overly thin noodles, reminded me of wonton skins. I was hungry after theater. They ran out of the mocha cappucino cake and after my two friends ordered it, the waiter came back and said that only the lemon custard was left. So, 3 lemon custards and no one finished theirs because it really wasn't that good.
Service was extremely fast as they are very accustomed to the pre-theater crowd. We were upset with the hostess, my friends were delayed and called the restaurant to ask them to please let me know when I came in that they were running very late and would be about 1/2 hour late. Well I come in and am seated at a table and am told nothing. My friend asks the hostess on our way out and she looks at the reservation book and sees an X next to our reservation and says oh sorry we received a message but were busy at that time.
On the whole, I would not recommend this place, pre-theater. Location was fantastic, we were 1/2 block from theater, but even though it was fairly inexpensive, food was just not good. Guess I'll just have to keep looking for that great pre-theater place!
