Donuts at Betty Ann Food Shop, East Boston

Dave M.P. | Feb 26, 2004 10:27 AM

I randomly found myself in East Boston this morning and came across Betty Ann Food Shop on Bennington St. I have never really been to that part of East Boston before, so I decided to check out this place. There were only a few items in the mostly empty store: plain donuts, jelly donuts, cruellers, lemon filled donuts, and some cookies and pastries. Donuts were 30 cents each so I had to try some (even though I had just been to Dunkin Donuts about 30 minutes earlier).....really good, homemade donuts covered in granulated sugar, obviously better than the Boston Creme from DD. The dough had a slight taste that I couldn't quite identify, maybe anise? But it wasn't quite that either....anyway, 30 cents for a great donut is awesome, if you are ever in East Boston in the morning, head over there!

Betty Ann Food Shop
565 Bennington St. (kinda near the Wood Island T stop, and quite close to the airport, which is why I was in that neighborhood)
East Boston, MA

They are closed on Mondays, and only open in the morning.
