Donnett's Report--Jamaica

Stopped here for lunch on the way back from a trip to the courthouse on Sutphin. Got the jerk chicken and a vegetable pattie. The jerk was pretty simple--sweet, then a little heat--but pleasant enough. The rice and peas had a nice kind of smoky flavor for some reason. The vegetable pattie was quite enjoyable. Not greasy, with greens that have that sour-but-sweet flavor some greens have--not sure what they were--and a bits of carrot and possibly onion inside. Got a look at the Brown Stewed Chicken, which was enticing, and the codfish fritters looked nice. Can't say it's a must-visit based on what I had, but I'd try it again to see how other stuff is. Perhaps somebody out there has more info, or knows of other better places in that vicinity.

It's at 147-15 Archer, just down the street from the Archer Ave. subway station. 718-297-1789.
