Went to Austin for the big SXSW shindig over the weekend.
Between seeing about a zillion bands, we drove out to Lockhart to go tto Kreuz Market. I was REALLY excited about this. I had been before, so I knew what to expect.
We ordered brisket, shoulder and a pork chop. While it all tasted perfectly fine, I have to say, I could not detect ANY smoky flavor in the meat. The brisket tasted like roast beef, period. It was very strange. So then we went across town to Black's, and had brisket and sausage. Now THAT tasted smoky, and therefore an altogether more satisfying experience. I just don't know what to think ...
Back in Austin, food highlights included Dot's, a really cool lunch-only cafeteria style place. Yummy meat loaf and peach cobbler. People line up for lunch starting at 10:30, and the doors open at 11.
Also, hit a GREAT Mexican place, Tacqueria El Borrego de Oro. Pork in a salsa verde that was very heavy on cumin, and so, so good.
