I hate to hate restaurants, but having spent $130 last night on terrible food and bad service that took FOREVER, I feel compelled to share.
Do not go to The Stissing House in Pine Plains, NY, no matter what anyone says. Having given this lovely place about a year to improve after the last visit, I've been duped yet again (based on faulty advice).
Three of us for dinner. Waitress refused to write our order down. Gets it wrong. Also, after seating us, disappeared for 30 mins. We order completely unfussy food, thinking, hey, how can you ruin a: Ceasar salad, pizza, pasta with seafood? Let me count the ways.
When the food finally came, hours after we arrived, the Ceasar salad was horribly sweet, with pimentos subbing in for anchovies, the pasta was gooey and inedible with overcooked old seafood, and the pizza was completely black on the bottom (no, not nicely charred) and not what was ordered. ("Oh, sorry. Well we ran out of what you wanted.")
So frustrating, after wanting badly to like this place, one of the only places for miles around. I know Pine Plains is way off the beaten path for nearly everyone, but even if you are starving, keep driving.
