Dishwasher Detergent, is There an All in One that works?

zackly | Feb 23, 201506:23 AM     96

I've been using Finish All in One Powerballs since they first showed up @ Costco. The results have been less than spectacular especially if I try to stay "green" & just scrape my plates with no pre-washing. I now add powdered detergent in the smaller cup as well as using Jet Dry in the machine, although the Powerball contains a drying agent, and use the "added heat" or "steam" option. Even with this sometimes it doesn't get everything clean. It's a two year old machine. Are dishwasher soaps less powerful than they were a few years ago? Does Consumer Reports still rate dishwasher detergents? Which ones do they like?
I'd like to be able to toss a single tablet or fill the cups with powder and be done with it. Does a product like that exist? I'd also prefer not to have to add Jet Dry. I have fairly soft city water. Thanks!
