The Beard House (a non-profit organization) is offering a substantial discount to Chowhound.com users interested in coming to a dinner event they're holding on March 28. Standard-issue foodies pay $110/person, but chowhounds can get in for $85 (including wine, tax, and tip).
Chef will be Scott Howell, from Nana's Restaurant in Durham, NC, which is highly-regarded (and has been well-mentioned by several posters on our "South" message board), though I've personally never been there. Howell will be cooking shmancy southern ("frisée and baby spinach with warm crayfish and smoked bacon vinaigrette; cured foie gras and country ham on angel biscuits, etc etc), complete with wine matchings.
Reservations are necessary: call 212-627-2308 during reg. biz hours, and ask for Claudia or Siobhan, who know about the Chowhound discount. Beware: there are cancellation fees (get info when you call).
