My son and I were in Las Vegas this weekend for a soccer tournament and decided to have dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. The whole family had eaten there one year ago (based on Chowhound recommendations) and thoroughly enjoyed it. On our previous visit the hanger steak was served as a very thin cut (maybe ¼ inch thick?) and was tender and very flavorful. This time the hanger steak was cut more like a New York strip, an inch thick by two inches wide and five inches long. The steak was incredibly tough to chew, hence you had to cut it into very small bites for it to be at all edible. The flavor was ok but not great. My son, who loves steak, wasnt even interested in finishing more than half of his. The frites were still good, though.
Can anyone advise which the real hanger steak is? I thought that maybe we were served the wrong cut of meat but the table next to us also ordered the hanger steak and got the same size cut of meat.
