Disappointed by Danube

Dylan | Jun 14, 200612:28 AM     2

I tried Danube - the new Bulgarian restaurant in Westwood some have written about here - and came away about 90% disappointed. The highlight was clearly the lamb braised in parchment paper (pleasantly tender with a nice hit of mint) but even that was unexceptional. The grilled meats generally had salty flavor notes (the rack of pork, the pork sausage, the spicy beef kufteh). The salad and rice were indifferent, the bread thoroughly stale (to the point of tasting vaguely moldy). And no alcohol to make the experience go down more smoothly. I suppose if I were forced to go back I would, but I certainly wouldn't go voluntarily.
