Disappointed by Caju

Jane | Jul 13, 2005 07:49 PM

So a girlfriend and I hit Caju yesterday, which I had been looking forward to for a while. Unfortunately the service peaked with an exceptional caipirihna and the warm cheese puffs served before dinner. After that things took a bit of a turn for the worse. I ordered off the menu, while my friend had the Summerlicious menu. The verdict:
Hearts of palm salad: pleasant but ordinary (esp. since the hearts of palm were canned)
Cod croquettes with lime-coriander sauce: very nice
Crab cakes with curry aioli: mushy crab, insufficierntly fried, with no discernible flavour in the aioli
Gazpacho: OK, but over-processed and with a surprising quanity of vinegar
Lemon-curry grilled chicken: OK but not exciting
Passionfruit mousse: very nice

Total for two: $77. I have no complaints about the prices, which are very reasonable. It's just the food was lacking intensity. The service was charming and efficient, however, which helped a little.
