Take the "Dirt Cheap" Challenge!

Wayne Keyser | Sep 14, 2004 12:43 AM

"Steve" challenged me (in my report just below on Il Mee Buffet) to come up with great filling meals under $5 (how low can you go?)

I'll extend the challenge to all: your suggestions?

I nominate any of the Banh Mi at Eden Center - I'm particularly fond of those at Huong Binh Bakery because (1) they're just steps from a handicapped parking space (where else can you park now that the giant outlet store has opened?) and (2) the owner always greets me with a smile no matter how busy and (3) they remember how I like my sandwiches.

The same bakery (and other stores there) have wrapped prepared delicacies like garden rolls, rice noodles with meat, and much more, for $1.50-$4.00. And of course there are the bao.

I'll throw in one more - lunch buffet at Joe's Place at Bailey's Crossroads - I don't even bother with the pizza and I don't like most of the salad items (of course, you might) but the delicious vegetable soup will fill you up and warm you up.

That's mine - now show me what you know!
