After reading the reviews on the Wash Post about Ray's and in particular a couple from parents who said that Ray's was rather unaccomodating to a couple dining with a small child, I say POO POO on you!
We ate at Ray's tonight for the first time, to celebrate a belated anniversary. Being parents of a 1 yr old, we knew to make reservations and make them early, at 6pm, because woe to parents who take a child out after 7 and expect them to be good. They had a high chair already at the table waiting for us, brought dishes out quickly and set them far away from our daughter. Our waitress asked us if we would like an extra plate for mashed potatoes for our daughter. Because it was early, we got prompt, attentive service, and the food came out quickly. Everything was absolutely delicious. We got a couple of glasses of wine, a caesar salad, and two ribeyes. Mine came with the brandy cream mushroom sauce and blue cheese, my husband's came with a horseradish sauce. Our daughter enjoyed the mashed potatoes and was an angel throughout the meal.
Because I had lunch at Han Sung Oak (another very excellent meal) today, I was very stuffed and left at least half of my steak on my plate. My husband couldn't finish his either because he had eaten a late lunch. Our waitress generously gave us a full portion of potatoes and spinach in each of our leftover containers. We declined the dessert menu because we were both so stuffed but they still brought out a great chocolate mousse, on the house because of our anniversary, and a couple of pieces of chocolate peanut butter fudge with the check.
For parents who have been worried about the child friendliness of this restaurant, I would say definitely give them a chance! Our experience was really fantastic.
