Dinner for 2 in the Financial District

I tried searching the board for the answer to my question, but I couldn't really figure out a definitive answer since a lot of the Financial District posts dealt either with lunch or with business meals.

I am temporarily staying at the corner of Milk St and State St, getting ready to relocate after several years in the Boston area. Next week is our last week and we have a babysitter all lined up so that my husband and I can head off and enjoy a proper adult meal - probably our last in Boston.

Now, if I had my way then we would be off to L'Espalier at top speed to make it truly memorable, however, we don't really have the budget for a meal at that price, although I'm not really looking for a "budget" meal either.

Here's the thing - there are a lot of restaurants right around us, and I have to believe that there must be something worth going to for a special, albeit "not total blowout" meal. I keep coming upon mediocre reviews for a lot of them (Caliterra, Umbria etc etc) so I thought I would just ask straight out where the Chows would suggest for a couple in this area. Of course, the North End is just a short stroll away, and Mamma Maria's is my back up plan, but I'm just curious if anywhere at all in the Financial District is chow-worthy.
