Dinner for 14 -- A "Nice" Place?

valerie | May 9, 2006 12:04 PM

Next month is my mother-in-law's 60th birthday and she has asked me for some recommendations on where she can plan a dinner for about 14 people. A private room might be nice, but it's not a necessity. She mentioned that she already called Gotham B&G, but they won't take a reservation for that many people and they don't have a separate room. So I was trying to come up with places similar to that.

Here is what I have so far:

Eleven Madison Park
Gramercy Tavern
I Trulli
The Water Club (haven't been in years, but thought it might work for this occasion)
BLT Steak
Scalini Fedeli
Le Bernadin

I didn't put any French places on the list because, selfishly, I don't really like French food and I will be attending the dinner! (But I am open for suggestions.) Plus, my in-laws do not have the most sophisticated palettes and they are not big wine drinkers for whatever that's worth.

I'm also not sure what the above places can do to accommodate 14 people, so I am just providing some suggestions and she can make the phone calls.

Any other suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
