My question regards the people who ask of a Vietnamese/Chinese/French/Whatever restaurant, "How many Vietnamese/Chinese/French/Whatever people eat there?" The implication is that if the food is authentic then lots of Vietnamese/Chinese/French/ Whatever people would be eating there.
I find this puzzling. I grew up eating and cooking American food, and for that reason I don't go to American restaurants if I can help it. I can cook that food myself in a way that I think is better, for the most part (usually the way my parents and grandparents made it).
Do people of other ethnicities feel the same, or am I just weird that way?
