Help, I need some guidance on dim sum. I have eaten dim sum in Hakassan once before but until last weekend never in Chinatown. We went to Harbour City on Gerrard Street with very little knowledge of what we should try, so we went for it...you would of been proud of us, we ordered chickens feet and ducks tongues (the waiter brought the ducks tongues over, looked at us and said "Did YOU order these?", "Yes" we replied "I can't believe it, you're the first white people to order these! a great Chowhound moment!). Anyway, overall it was a bit hit and miss. Boyfriend ordered a mini roast pork pie - you can take the boy out of Slough but... which I thought was disgusting (he loved it) but had some delicious fragrant steamed dumplings such as crab and coriander and prawn with minced pork and chive. Treasury chicken dumplings were bland with one of those dreadful "crab sticks" wrapped in it. Had some wonderful deep fried bean curd with minced prawn paste. I didn't like the cheung fung (sp), too slimy.

I would love some recommendations as to what you think is great about dim sum and the best places to go (I've read loads about Royal China Gardens in Bayswater but don’t know if I can bear the queues).

P.S the chickens feet were great, but duck's tongues were very bony and I felt a bit queasy afterwards!
