I sent a friend, her husband and another couple who live in the neighborhood to DiFara's recently - it was 6pm on a Saturday - she had an experience from restaurant hell - I warned her that it was slow, very informal and even grungy in the seating area - ok - but when she was there, the tables had not been cleared, the garbage had piled up around the trash can with nowhere to put it - and there were so many people, they decided to order for takeout - well, 75 min and several walks with their baby around the block later, when Dominick couldnot tell them when their food would be ready, they told him they would have to forget about it, and drove off to Carroll Gdns to get fed. She said next time they would call ahead for takeout - but the problem is, D and his son are overwhelmed at peak hours - they cook everything right, and it takes a while. We had a similar but better experience a couple weeks ago at Friday prime time. My advice? Go expecting to wait, to be your own busboy, and to have to move tables and chairs around - most importantly, try to avoid prime weekend hours - the food remains wonderful but the experience can be trying.
