Dessert after Capitol Grill and Cafe, Lawrence

I was in Lawrence on Sunday to see a photo exhibit at the Heritage park and saw a display case in which were items manufactured in Lawrence, 4 of which were chocolates. That was a lead I couldn't resist and after a conversation with the guide we were off to Van Otis chocolates which is around the corner from coincidentally, The Capitol Grill and Cafe! We chuckled at the name and never gave it another thought until it appeared on this board!

Back to the chocolates. No relation now to the Van Otis line that comes out of New Hampshire but was at one time, though many, many years ago. If you blink you'll pass it as it looks like a little house and not a retail space. Husband waited in the car as I went in to check it out thinking I'd be out in a flash as it didn't look like much. I was, not to leave however, but rather to drag him in. Lovely German woman behind the counter gave us a bit of history and offered samples of their only product, Swiss truffles, blocks of the creamiest, smoothest, tastiest chocolate you can imagine. Oh my, they are some fine chocolates. Come in milk, dark, white, plain or with nuts. 7 half pound boxes later we headed home. Going to visit relatives in Ireland and the UK and always looking for local treats to bring and these fit the bill perfectly. $14 a pound.

From CGC it's around the corner at the intersection where Walgreens and CVS are, 468 Andover St. http://vanotistruffles.com/aboutus.aspx
