After having been alerted by a note in CT magazine that the Brickhouse Pizza in Westbrook had gone upscale with designer pizzas, we decided to give it a try. Since there had been notes about slow service in other food review sites, we decided to order take out. There was no delay in our order, they said it would be ready in a half-hour, and it was just coming out of the oven when I arrived 20 minutes later. The waitress and chef were both friendly and informative.
But there was a glitch. We ordered their Shrimp, Applewood Smoked Bacon,
Fontina, Avocado, and Pineapple Salsa Pizza (my wife commented that several of their offerings didn't sound like pizza!) and actually found the Shrimp, Basil Pesto, Sliced Tomato, and Asiago version when I opened the box at home. It was still good, but I should have peeked in the box before paying for it. The crust was thin and a little chewy. I don't always eat the leftover rims, but dipping them into wine made them a nice post-meal treat.
The prices are somewhat higher than usual on the shoreline, and the dining area is quite small, so don't plan on going there with your kid's soccer team, but if you think the items on their menu sound interesting (there are weekly specials, as well as calzones and pasta dishes, and you can even design your own pizza), it promises a change from the usual apizza offerings.
