i want to make shortbread cookies that are sort of like biscotti (that is, finger-shaped), so that i could dip them half into melted chocolate or peppermint bark. so i'd like a recipe that yields a firm cookie, not something that'd crumble delicately away when i try to dip it. i'd like to put them in a jar and give them as a gift.
does anyone have that type of shortbread recipe? and i still can't tell if it's really better to have cold or softened butter - does it do something to the texture of the shortbread cookie?
