I noticed Alpha-Dog's bit on deli's today on the Manhattan board. I found it interesting and suprprising and not just because Jim changed the subject line within a thread.

Am I alone in thinking that all of us here in the rest of the country are shocked, shocked, that New York deli's are going downhill. Part of me wants to say, hey you all are just being spoiled brats, look what the rest of us have to deal with. But I see that the deli thread is nothing if not sincere.

So, I wonder are there great deli's left outside of Montreal, and why are the great one's vanishing so fast.

To me, it is not the food that has gone downhill so much, as the atmosphere. I believe the primary reason for this, is that the newer generation of jew, while hankering for the food of our ancestors, has different social habits. For instance, you will find us much more likely in bars or eating dim sum. Plus, we just do not hang out as much as they used to.

Without much explanation, I have to say that there are many times when I find Rascal House, in Miami Beach, the single best resturant in the world.
