Picture of this frozen packaged 'Spicy Shanghainese Dan Dan Noodle' from T&T was so appealing and authentic looking, I decided to give it a try.
Cooking instruction must be the ' most precise ' I have ever encountered for a frozen/instant noodle dish?!......... " Cook in boiling water for 1 MINUTE & 40 SECONDS " !!
Surprise they did not mention at what sea level altitude?! Ha!!
The 1 minute & 40 seconds cooking instruction yielded a bowl of ramen like Shanghainese noodle ( strand thickness similar to Spaghettini ) that was super chewy and al-dente!
The associated broth, created by dissolving the pouch of chili oil based, fermented bean paste sauce in 300ml of water, packed a nice and perfectly judged spicy hot punch. Taste profile was savory and salty with the spicy and umami rich component coming from Sichuan peppercorns, various chili peppers and certain unfamiliar tasting spices.
All in all, a most enjoyable and tasty bowl of Dan Dan Noodles! ( eaten with a few morsels of home-made Tiger prawns Won-Ton )....and at $4.99 for 2 servings, pretty good value for money!
