Today another DDC member and I were having lunch with Bob Axel who is a chef instructor at the Art Institute of Phila. We were discussing the various DDC dinners and that we are always looking for ideas.
Bob mentioned the Smokeless Mongolian Barbeque on Washington Ave. and said he could arrange a dinner with the owner with many course for $20.00 to $22.00/pp including tax and tip. I mentioned that, though I hadn't been there before, there were many posts on the Chowhound Board raving about it. Bob said he could do such a dinner on reasonably short notice. (He seems to be VERY knowledgeable on Asian food.
So I'm throwing out the following idea. Is anyone interested in a weeknight dinner like this in second half of September? Rich is still working on the fantastic Rib Run but I have the impression it will be a weekend. (am I right Rich?). And Blues Chef is committing to October 19th (A Saturday night) for his blowout. (It's on my calendar already!). I know some DDC members find that they prefer weeknights (I for one) and we found the Downtown Philly is a good central place and the Mongolian has plenty of free parking!
So, I'm going out on a limb and asking if others are interested and if those who have been there want to comment.
If there is interest, I'lll talk with Bob next week and let him come up with a proposal.
If there's little interest, I'll let it lay. Since not everyone can make every date (or want every cuisine) I think two in September will still work, won't it?
