Dan's Candy, first stop on the April 8 Joliet chowdown, three years ago began making a special box of candy for Mother's Day. It's called "Flavors of Summer" and is about ten round-topped creams of different colors, decorations, and fruit flavors. Chris, the counterwoman, said that each piece is hand-dipped and "hand-strung" on site and that since Dan's makes only one run of these "Flavors of Summer" each spring, they'll all be gone by the end of May.
Annette Williams, proprietor of the soul food-ish Cafe Nette, occasionally serves garfish when her parents bring some up from Louisiana. She has some now. I get it "smothered" in a brown gravy with rice. You might have to ask for it as it's not on the menu, and it will probably be all gone by late Saturday.
