Boy, was I bummed when I heard that Brother Jimmy's closed. You all mourn Mimi's. Me, I missed the North Carolina style Q, savagedly loud clientele, and especially, the kids eat free deals at Brother Jimmy's. What a relief to learn today, that Brother Jimmy's has reappeared opposite the mothership, Wrigley Field.
I suppose Carolinians might think of Brother Jimmy's food the same way I think of Heavan on Seven. Nothing like the real thing, but some of the dishes stand out on their own merit. Hell, I just like the option of getting naked pork and dousing it with the vinegar-based sauce. That's a rare treat. I also like the ultra-thin onion rings and plenty of the other sides including the greens and the potato salad.
As I mentioned above, perhaps nothing appealed to me more at Brother Jimmy's than the kids eat free deals. It was not really the free hot dogs that I wanted, it was the extra side dishes. Each kid gets two side dishes. Given that one order of fries and one macaroni is basically enough for the two chowhounditas, it gave us more options for the table. Yum.
I have to admit that I can speak neither for the quality of the new location, nor for whether they still have the kids eat free deal, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
