Our "almost" Dakota experience

xoxohh | Aug 31, 200511:52 AM

Having heard positive reviews on Dakota, Hubby and I, went there last night. To start, I called for a reservation and was put on hold 5 minutes. When my call was taken, I requested a 7:30 time and wanted a nice booth. I was told 7:00 or 8:00 were available, so I choose 8:00 with a booth. We arrived at 7:55, and the host and hostess were having a conversation, and we were completely ignored. I also notice the restaurant albiet quite beautiful, was more than half empty. I wondered why a 7:30 reservation wasn't offered to us. Anyway, the hostess (dressing in jeans with a tattoo very visable on the back side) finally sat us at a two top. I asked her why when I had requested a reservation for a booth, that I wasn't told that 2 people could not have one. Her sarcastic reply was "well I wasn't the one who answered the phone when you called". Very classy young lady! So here we are sitting at a large 2 top that I felt hubby was in a different area code. We brought a nice bottle of wine and wanted it decanted. The server disappeared with it, which made us nervous. The bus boy came by and tried to push bottled water on us as well. We ordered 2 straight up Rob Roys to start, and as fate would have it, they arrived on the rocks. Of course we told him the mistake, and he left with our drinks, saying "I guess I should have paid attention when you ordered". At this point with everything that had happened, we decided to cut our losses and leave. I asked the server for my wine back and he reluctantly handed it back. I asked to speak with a manager, and in somewhat cool fashion, but also apologetic she said we could switch tables and have another server. I thought she was genuine, but we declined. We ended up having a marvelous meal at The Grill on the alley.
