Dairy Joy...huh?

I have been a fan of the Dairy Joy Java Berry swirl/twist cone for quite some time. Many trips back from a swim in Concord or a trip to Verrill have concluded with a stop here for a soft serve. It has always been a favorite of mine.

I was going to be in the area today with a friend and we decided to go to Dairy Joy for lunch(the outdoor tables being a big lure). I have never, ever ordered anything here other than a Java Berry cone. We ordered a supercheeseburger( I asked what was on the supercheeseburger and was told it was just an 8 oz burger with cheese and served with fries/doesn't sound so super). The window dude didn't ask for a temperature on the burger and quite honestly I didn't expect it to be anything less than med/med well. We also ordered a daily special sandwich of sliced prime rib of beef with melted swiss on a bulkie roll with mayo/lettuce and tomato ($7.50 or available with small drink and fries for $11).

The burger is listed at $9.00 on the board. We asked for ours with lettuce/tomato/onion and the upcharge for that is a whopping $1.50...ya all for a piece of lettuce and two slices of really lame tomato(expectedly lame but ordered anyway). We sat and waited about 3 minutes before our number was called. Hmmm 3 minutes for an 8 oz burger....impossible. The burger was well done, maybe it was an 8 oz burger before cooking/maybe not, it seemed like it was a hand packed burger and that it was probably nuked or ovened to heat up and slightly melt the cheese. To say the least, it wasn't very good. So $10.50 for a roadside burger at a takeaway window...I won't get screwed there again. Oh yeah, it was served with 12 french fries...F U twice.

The sandwich was pretty mediocre too. Sliced roast beef in a pile that was heated up to melt the cheese and it was on the same bun the burger was on. Definitely a better value than the burger but nowhere near as good as a roast beef place sandwich.

I am not opposed to paying good money for good food or waiting a little time to get something good. I won't be dining at Dairy Joy again. I will continue to go for a Javaberry twist though(small I think was $2.95).

Fairly high prices on the fried seafood items(probably in line with many other places)
Lobster roll $20

Lame burger(sorry I meant supercheeseburger) way too expensive.
