I went to see Just Like Heaven at the Century 16 and then went right next door to Da Kitchen on Plymouth St., Mountain View, CA. Well, it totally satisfied my appetite for Hawaiian food and I didn't even have to wait to get back to Maui where they have their two original restaurants. It has those enormous Hawaiian plates that are very bad for my "lose 20 lbs. in the next year" diet. But I was careful to order the Chinese chicken salad that was gi-normous. It really could have been the salad for a family of four. The first bite and last bites and everything in between was so deelicious! So cold, crunchy and laden with slender chicken teriyaki strips and lightly covered with a deelicious salad dressing with another cup served automatically on the side. It tasted so good. I think it was the best chinese chicken salad I've ever had in a restaurant. They put romaine lettuce in it that is so fresh, crisp and chopped into very bitable pieces along with cold, crisp and crunchy napa cabbage. I brought the leftovers home for dinner and it was good for a salad that sat with dressing on it all afternoon. I always bring home my leftover salads and usually toss them b/c they are so soggy. My sister had the teriyaki burger that must've been a 1/2lb. hamburger and it really tasted like teriyaki. How do they do that? Everytime I make teriyaki at home the flavor is very subtle once I get the tomato, lettuce and onion on it and I can no longer taste the teriyaki sauce. My mom had the special plate, a nice scoop of Kalua pork, 2 large pieces of this marinated pork chop, two teriyaki chicken breasts, 2 scoops of white rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. All this and 3 drinks, a side of fries and another teriyaki burger to go was about $45. I'm going back next week after I see the Constant Gardener.
