Da Andrea Report

I finally had the chance to have dinner last night at Da Andrea and just want to say one thing to all of you Chowhounds that recommended the place so highly;thank you! Had a wonderful Valentines dinner with my wife.A few of the highlights:

Atmosphere/Ambience: It is a very warm and cozy place. You combine that with the extremely friendly waiters and managers/owners and you feel instantly welcome.I really liked the atmosphere.

Service: Terrific and friendly.

Appetizers: If you have not been here and decide to go make sure you order their warm octopus salad. It is combined with potatoes, olives, capers in a light basil sauce. Its presentation was great and it was almost a meal in itself.Delicious.We also ordered their Tigelle, which is hot flat bread, almost like a thin biscuit, that comes 5 to a plate with loads of prosciutto and fresh parmesan cheese. You open up the hot bread, put in the prosciutto ansd sprinkle on some cheese.Very good and also very filling. We also had a 3rd appetizer, portobello mushroom braised with olive oil and served with polenta and gorgonzola. It was good but overshadowed by the other appetizers.

Entrees: Their pastas are home made so we stuck with 2 pasta dishes. My wife had the taglioni pasta served with squid ink, clams and cherry tomatos and white wine. She loved it.It seemed a little salty to me but I don't eat squid ink and my wife tells me it is usually a little salty. The serving size was large and presented well. I had the gnochi potato dumplings served in a gorgonzola sauce with arrugula.Very good.I had heard someone on one of the board reviews complain that they thought the gnocchi was "mushy" but I would disagree. They were very light and melted in your mouth.Again a large serving well presented.

Desserts: I had a wonderful chocolate cake with hazelnut ice cream. The cake was rich and it combined well with the melted carmel on the plate.Yum! My wife had one of her favorites,a large apple tart with vanilla ice cream. It was very fresh.

Price: The best part besides the great service, location, food quality and presentation and portions? The price. We had 3 appetizers,2 entrees,2 desserts,a half bottle of house red, coffe and several sodas for $82.00! A Valentines dinner for under a $100.00 with tip.The bonus was all the leftovers I can enjoy today.

We really enjoyed the experience and want to thank all of you that recommended Da Andrea.
