curry chicken

Would anyone be able to help me out- When I was in college I had some Malaysian friends and they would make the best curry chicken and I can't recreate it no matter what. It was probably Indian/Malay because it was very spicy. Recipes I have tried make it sweet or the sauce is kindof pasty. They made it in a wok with hardly any sauce. It has been almost 10 years since I've had it so it is getting harder to describe in words:(

Any suggestions would be great-thanks! Jen
