Can you make cultured buttermilk from creme fraiche?

Hi all, I am an extreme novice in cooking, and trying many things out for the first time. To add one more challenge to this process, I am trying to learn while living as an expat in Mexico, where ingredients are understandably different than most of my US/English cooking books.

One particular challenge of mine has been to find buttermilk. There are a few US-import specialty stores that have powdered buttermilk, which works ok, but seems to be a lot more runny than the recipes expect. It's difficult to find heavy whipping cream or 'Crema para Batir' that is not ultra-high pasteurized, so I doubt that finding fresh cultured buttermilk is ever going to be possible. I could probably buy some buttermilk cultures and bring them back on a trip, but I'd really like to avoid breaking any live culture import laws / getting in trouble at customs.

However, I did find this carton of 'Crema Cultivada' by Flor de Alfalfa, which I think is the equivalent of creme fraiche, based on their ingredients and fat content online (https://flordealfalfa.com/productos/c...). I've seen plenty of recipes for making cultivated creme fraiche with cultivated buttermilk - but will it work the same in the opposite direction? Can I take a few tablespoons of this Crema Cultivada and mix it in with milk to make cultivated buttermilk?
