So I went to Cuchi Cuchi last night for the first time, a Monday night around 9:30 pm. We were greeted by a very stern hostess, seated and given menus, and then ignored for a considerable period, maybe 10 minutes. The place was nearly empty but quite cozy and inviting. I thought the tables were a bit large for what would expect was sort of an intimate setting.
I couldn't catch anyone's eye but eventually the greeter came over to fix a lamp on our table, and I asked if we could order. They were extremely apologetic and said they didn't realize the waitress hadn't come over yet.
I was very impressed by their cocktail menu, very unique stuff but quite expensive ($9 to $12 I think). Both cocktails we ordered were beautiful and quite strong! We also shared a squash dish and the "Cuban Cigars," which was described as short ribs in black bean sauce wrapped in empanada dough. Both dishes were very well executed. We enjoyed it.
We were also happily surprised by a free dessert they offered to us, seemingly for the ordering mix-up at the beginning. It was a yummy and impressive display of caramelized banana laid on banana pancakes, with mounds of whipped cream and ice cream. Very classy move.
41 bucks for two cocktails and two dishes, a light meal.
I'd go back.
