Cubano's - Silver Spring

Ellen | May 29, 2004 10:26 AM

I had a nice dinner at Cubano's last night & wanted to report. Husband & I started with a tamal (shared) with chicken - texture was a little more "moist" than I prefer but nice flavor if slightly bland. Husband had a grilled pork chop, nice piece of meat and really good straightforward grilled meat taste. I got the Ropa Vieja with 'moros y christianos' (spiced up black beans & rice) and it was EXCELLENT!! The flavor of the beef was incredible -- just the right amount of tomatoes, peppers, spices etc. The portion was pretty large too, so I have leftovers today - yum :-) Then we split a tres leches for dessert (sponge cake with three different kinds of sweet condensed milk). I had a sangria & was not so thrilled with it -- glass was full of ice so ended up getting pretty watered down. Our total bill was under $60 including tax & tip.

The location is good, it is on the oppposite side of Georgia Ave from the metro station, one block north of Colesville, so presumably walkable for folks visiting the AFI. Nice alternative to all the chains popping up in that area!
