Croton: Zeytinia and Salsa

Josh Mittleman | May 30, 2004 05:24 PM

Two developments in Croton this spring.

A gourmet grocery, Zeytinia, has opened in the plaza that used to hold the Grand Union. I am told that it is a branch of a small chain; and that the same people own Amish Farms in the city.

Anyhow, it's a gourmet grocery in the mold of Dean & Deluca: Good produce, good fish & meat, a large selection of interesting ingredients, a pretty good cheese counter, great charcuterie. They have a large selection of prepared foods and pastries. Bread has been a weak spot relative to other options in northern Westchester, but it's certain the best within walking distance! So far, their prices have been remarkably good for the quality. This may be just because they are new and trying to attract business, of course.

At the other end of the same plaza, a very mediocre sushi bar has been replaced by a restaurant called Salsa that describes itself as "cocina Mexicana y tequileria". It just opened this week, and I haven't gotten there yet. Has anyone?
