tonight marks the 3rd time i've hit this spot for a bite. at the south end of 3rd street in santa monica, there's a new crepe cafe that serves crepes restaurant-style inside and at a walk-up window on the outside.
i've now enjoyed their crepes from the window 2 times and 1 time inside. window-style is definitely my preference. the cooks make them right there in front of you and they have something like 15 savory versions and 20 sweet versions to choose from. rather than serve them in the traditional rolled-style, they fold them up into a small, very thick triangle and enclose them in paper. you can eat them as you walk and they're quite delicious this way. we've enjoyed the following versions: nutella-banana, lemon-sugar, and gruyere-ham. it's a great treat for about $5-6 in the middle of your 3rd street shopping spree.
as a side note . . . . . . eating inside the cafe was a bit of a disappointment as the service was extremely slow, unresponsive, and costs more what with tip and drinks. and frankly, i think i prefer the folded up version of the crepe that they give you at the to-go window rather than the dine-in rolled-style.
this new crepe cafe is right next door to papyrus and across the walkway from broadway deli.
